Abstract: Objective: Ectodermal dysplasia is a set of hereditary syndromes that promote the aplasia of structures derived from the ectoderm. Among the more than 150 types described in the literature, the hypohidrotic form is the most common. Its clinical manifestations cause physiological and psychosocial damages to the patients. A multidisciplinary team is in charge of the treatment, and it is up to the dentist to perform adequate oral therapy in order to recover the functionality and self-esteem of the affected individuals. This work aims to describe the characteristics correlated to this disorder, and to present, through a case report, the Occlusal Plastic as a possible dental treatment for the oral rehabilitation of a dysplastic patient. Clinical considerations: a patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, already submitted to a series of previous corrective interventions, was not satisfied with her masticatory and aesthetic function. She had open posterior bite and bilateral crossbite, in addition to unsatisfactory anterior restorations. In this way, Occlusal Plastic was chosen because it consists of a sequence of techniques that aim to diagnose, plan and rehabilitate the anatomy and occlusal function with plastic materials. Conclusion: Occlusal Plastic is an effective treatment for the rehabilitation of cases where occlusion and aesthetics are unsatisfactory. However, this therapeutic technique is only feasible in dysplastic patients if there is a combination with other treatments recommended in the literature. As for the prognosis, more follow-up time, and more studies, are necessary to prove the effectiveness of this rehabilitation, which presents itself as promising.
